About the workshop:

Since the closure of the "formalized corridor" in 2015, the EU has been expanding an increasingly brutal border regime at its land borders. Illegal pushbacks, mistreatment up to torture and human rights violations happen daily at the EU external borders in Croatia and Hungary. This violent practise is supported and expanded by the EU financially, politically and on the ground through Frontex. Balkanbrücke is an association of activists who want to take action against this. In an interactive workshop we want to give an input on the situation on the "Balkan route", present our work and discuss with you possible actions and forms of resistance.

About the trainers: Clara Bauer, Pauline Zapke

We are both active with Balkanbrücke since about one year, after spending some time at the Serbian-Hungarian border. Returning to Germany we noticed that hardly anyone we spoke to knew the impact of the brutal EU's asylum policy on its external land borders, although it is done by our representatives in our name. And this is how we ended up in Balkanbrücke, where we are trying to create more awareness for the situation and our involvement in it. Balkanbrücke is an association of activists against the EU's policy of fortification at the land borders along the "Balkan Route". We demand an end to illegal Pushbacks, violence and human rights violations at the external borders, safe an legal ways to Europe and freedom of movement for eveyone.
