About SAME

What we do

In times of growing Euroscepticism, SAME encourages young people to stand up for a fair and democratic world by taking up social commitment and showing solidarity. We believe in the power of young people and want to make their voices heard. In this context, we spread the idea of the Solidarity Action Day all over Europe and support new Action Day initiatives.

Furthermore, we offer training and education for our members, arrange best practice exchanges among them and strengthen the European idea by organising public events.

Our Vision & Mission

VISION

As active citizens, young people act in solidarity with their peers and stand up for democracy, equity, human rights and intercultural understanding.

MISSION

Solidarity Action Day Movement in Europe (SAME) empowers young people to make their voices heard. We believe in the power of youth and encourage them to become a driver of societal change in their local and the global community.

As a movement of young people, we spread the idea and concept of the Solidarity Action Day and support new Solidarity Action Day initiatives. SAME builds a strong network of partners which strengthen each other in their mission through intercultural exchange and by sharing their expertise. We offer learning possibilities, informal and non-formal education and are continuously learning ourselves. Throughout our work, we act in a sustainable way.

SAME empowers young people to get informed, take a stand and act.

HOW SAME IS ORGANIZED

Once the idea of the SAME network was consolidated, we started thinking about how we could work efficiently as a group. During the annual General Assembly – the highest decision-making body of the organisation – key decisions are taken. On 30/07/2015 during the Summer Camp in Norway, the first General Assembly in the history of SAME took place. This was the first step towards the legal foundation of SAME, which formally happened later that year, on November 20. The General Assembly had 70 participants from 9 organizations in 8 countries, and saw the approval of the new organisational structure, of the working group mandates and of the statutes of SAME. This new framework allowed further developments of SAME, expanding its network and helping to spread the Solidarity Action Day Movement.

Our Vision & Mission

Solidarity Action Day is our core project, so we work hard on bringing it to new organizations and new places in Europe.

The idea of the Solidarity Action Day is simple: Young people swap their normal day at school for a job of their choice. They donate their salaries to youth-related projects from all over the world. Large number of young people participate in the Solidarity Action Day annually.

Council

The Council is the second highest decision making body of the network. It is composed by the Member Organisations, where each of them has the right to speak & vote. The Council meets at least three times a year, and additional meetings might be held upon request of the Council Coordinating Organisation.

Board

The Board is in charge of the daily management and administration of the association. Board members do not represent their member organizations, but the association (SAME). The Board is also responsible for convening the General Assembly.

The Board propels SAME’s vision and daily operations with fervor and energy. Its members, elected from the General Assembly, contribute different viewpoints for the successful implementation of the association’s mission. As not individual member organizations, but collectively as SAME, the Board formulates strategy, provides guidance and operationalizes all activities. Through their leadership, the board enables the realization of our shared goals and deliver impact.
